Self-Improving Systems

Can we build tools that improve themselves?

For a long time, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of systems that improve themselves over time - the notion of compounding. This a principle I’ve worked to incorporate into my own life and also what I’m trying to build at ZeroHomes.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about software that improves itself. How can we create these systems that will iterate on themselves to becoming better without human intervention?

I’m testing this out this week with my lifting app, Overload - a mobile app that I created for my friends and I to track our progress in the gym.

So, I’ve created an agent loop that monitors analytics, comes up with ideas, and then implements them in the app. Transparently, this loop probably needs quite a bit of massaging to get to a good place, but I’m testing it out this week and seeing what fun new features pop up in my phone.
